PROJECT
Power Lab
Five different lab equipment-inspired game cabinets were designed that highlighted different energy resources. Spanning hydroelectric dams, wind turbines, solar panels, and nonrenewable resources, a variety of games were created that reflect each of these elements. The arcade-inspired cabinets included an all-elements tower defense game, a soil stacker game, a solar motion capture game, a water-inspired touch screen sandbox game, and a 4-player wind harnessing racing game.
CONCEPT
A mad scientist laboratory where experimentations of different power sources are explored!
The themes interwoven throughout the exhibit include street art influences designed by a local artist, mad scientist tools and machinery, and different sources of energy. Different lab equipment will focus on a different energy source and demonstrate an educational concept outlined in the game play.
TOWER DEFENSE GAME - “ALL ELEMENTS”
The Mad Scientist has created a invention that is able to generate concentrated orbs of different kinds of energy sources, as well as harvester machine that collect this energy, in kilojoules.
Unfortunately the receptacle that collects the excess energy has broken down, and can only accept 5 more orbs before the machine breaks! You must collect the energy orbs by placing the corresponding harvester machines down before they reach and overwhelm the system.
Line stacker game - “fossil fuels”
This time, the Mad Scientist has created a cross between a time machine and a miniature heat & pressure apparatus. The goal: to create their own fossil fuels quickly.
The problem is, the Mad Scientist is now understanding it takes a lot more skill and time than anticipated to create fossil fuels. Timing is everything! Can you speed up the clock hundreds of millions of years and create the right conditions to strike oil?
MOTION CAPTURE GAME - “SOLAR PANELS”
Here, the Mad Scientist has tried to recreate one of the greatest energy sources in our solar system: the sun! The problem is, this contraption has gone out of control...
The artificial sun is shooting solar flares and photon energy in erratic directions which has damaged the automated solar panel. It is now up to you to physically control the solar panel photon-capturing device manually using motion capture technology. Be the Solar Panel. You are the Solar Panel. Capture as many photons while dodging asteroids in space to prevent more damage to the ship.
TOUCH SCREEN SANDBOX GAME - “HYDROELECTRIC DAMS”
The Mad Scientist has developed an aerial-view platform where you are able to carve away earth in order to create a pathway for water to flow down hill towards a mega dam.
Select and render different terrains as you place up to three more dams in the rivers you created. Can you generate enough electricity to reach 100% of your goal in kilowatts per minute?
4-player racing game - “wind turbines”
The Mad Scientist has been experimenting with wind energy as an alternative way to power cars. A driving simulator inside a virtual wind tunnel has been developed to test these prototypes.
Align your turbine-mounted system with the wind’s direction to generate electricity to power your car while trying to steer clear of obstacles! Navigate through the gauntlet created to test this latest invention.
